Pub Choir started in Australia in 2017. The live show transforms audiences into incredible choirs. The aim is to book a licensed venue with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of strangers who learn how to sing a popular song in beautiful 3-part harmony.
Every show is equal parts music, comedy, and beer, guided to glory by Pub Choir’s director Astrid Jorgensen.
In the summer of 2022 a Pub Choir performance of Running Up That Hill happened at the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane. The choir was supported by Mariel Hopper (guitar), Libby Scott (drums) and the Queensland Chamber Orchestra consisting of Jonny Ng, Brendan Joyce, Anna Colville and Katherine Philp.
A week after the video was posted on YouTube, Kate Bush watched it and responded with a message.
Dear Brisbane Pub Choir, I’ve been so busy that I’ve only just had the chance to watch you all singing RUTH. It’s utterly, utterly wonderful! I love it so much! Thank you everyone. You sing it really beautifully. I’m incredibly touched by your warmth and all your smiling faces. Thank you!
