Kingfisher Sky is a Dutch progressive metal band from Netherlands, created and led by drummer Ivar de Graaf. De Graaf left the band Within Temptation in 2001 to pursue his own musical interests. Initially he founded Jambone, with the idea to cover classic rock bands. The band featured Edo Van Der Kolk on lead guitar and Michiel Parqui on bass guitar. They found a lead vocalist in the classically trained singer Judith Rijnveld and, when Zelda Weski joined as backing vocalist, the line-up was complete. The band released a 5-track demo in January 2002, but unfortunately Michiel and Zelda left in October 2003 and Edo took a break.
One year later, Ivar decided to change the name to Kingfisher Sky and the duo started recording songs in their home studio in 2005. At an early stage, Eric Hoogendoorn (bass), Daan Janzing (guitar) and George van Olffen (keyboards) joined. In 2007 they recorded their first album, starting a successful international career. They toured around the world and released four albums between 2007 and 2018.
Several personnel changes happened in the meantime, with its current line-up consisting of Ivar de Graaf (drums), Judith Rijnveld (vocals), Edo van der Kolk (lead guitar), Maaike Peterse (cello), Nick Verschoor (bass) and Erik van Ittersum (keyboards). This line-up went on tour in March 2023 with a show dedicated to the songs of Kate Bush. Having played some of her songs during previous live tours, this was their first show completely dedicated to Kate’s music.
