Born as Ronald Stephen Hoggarth in Kendal, Westmorland on 14 May 1959., Steve Hogarth became interested in music as a child. He taught himself to play piano. Leaving school at the age of eighteen, Hogarth spent three years studying for a degree in electrical engineering at Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University). He was also a member of a band during this time, Harlow, who played working men’s clubs. The band split in 1981 and Hogarth left his engineering degree, moving to London to further his music career.

After stints in the bands The Europeans and How We Live, Hogarth ended up replacing Fish in the band Marillion, following Fish’s departure in 1988. He remains with the band until the present day, but also has side projects such as The H-Band and solo tours.

During his solo tours, he has performed cover versions of The Man With The Child In His Eyes and Cloudbusting.
