‘Nature’s Way’ is a song written by Randy Craig Wolfe a.k.a. Randy California and recorded by the American rock band Spirit in 1970. It appeared on the band’s fourth album Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus. ‘Nature’s Way’ was released as a single and reached number 111 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 1991, Kate Bush was asked by Martyn Ware to collaborate on a cover version for his British Electric Foundation album Music Of Quality And Distinction Volume 2.

In an interview, Martyn Ware recalled: “We selected a song by a band called Spirit called ‘Nature’s Way’. I’ve always had an inkling that she could cover things in a soul style because it’s there in her work. She probably doesn’t even recognise it herself. For my own pleasure I thought it would be nice to see how she works because she always works in her own studio and sometimes that means you can’t see the wood for the trees. Also she’s a very shy person and I don’t think she likes putting herself into a different environment at random. [I managed to talk to her directly] and she went away and thought about it and then politely came back and said ‘I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the album but I don’t think it’s right for me’. You can’t really argue with that.”
