Born as Liv Kristine Espenæs in Stavanger, Norway on 14 February 1976, Liv Kristine joined the gothic metal band Theatre of Tragedy in 1994 as a backing vocalist, but was soon promoted to sharing lead vocals with Raymond István Rohonyi. She stayed with the band until 2003. Having lived in Germany since 1996, she also collaborated with the death metal band Atrocity, and married their singer Alexander Krull on 3 July 2003. With the five musicians from Atrocity she formed a new band, Leaves’ Eyes, in August 2003. Her marriage ended in January 2016, and a few months later she left the band.
Meanwhile, Liv Kristine also released solo albums. Her first album ‘Deus Ex Machina’ was released in 1998. The albums ‘Enter My Religion’ (2006) and ‘Skintight’ (2010) followed. In 2012 she released the album ‘Libertine’, which featured a cover version of The Man With The Child In His Eyes. In 2014 the album ‘Vervain’ was released.
In December 2017 it was announced that Liv joined her sister Carmen’s band Midnattsol. She was originally announced to be a guest on their new album but after some discussions, the band picked her up as a permanent member.
