‘Kidnapped On A Building Site’ is a song written by Kate Bush. Recorded as a demo, presumably in 1978 or 1979, at London AIR Studios.

The song’s title straightforwardly reflects its narrative about the terror of an abduction victim. There’s little to the song beyond that, with all its lyrics being variations on “Mom, come pick me up, I’m scared” (“My body is a-bleeding / get down and pray”).

Lyrics

Ohh

I don’t remember
How I came here
I’ve been shouting out for hours
(Ohh)

Oh they tied me
And they hided me
And I felt alone and cower ohh

This is an unknown address
In a rescued party
Just taken my test
Too long to beat on my death
I’ve gotta find a way to get out of here

Ohh
Wait

Scissors on a table
(Too far away)
And am I ready am I able?
(We couldn’t say)
Will I leave them with a fable?
(Huh? no way!)
Oh I’m banging on the ceiling
(Watch for the plane)
My body is a bleeding
(Get down and pray)
But there isn’t anybody in
(All away)
All away, all away

Ohh
Wait

I can hear engines in the distance
And I know that we’re in tough land
(Ohh)
Think of my mother
Cry for my brothers
And there’s only one can help me
Me!

This is an unknown address
(? ? ? ?)
Gone and taken my test
No place to take up my rest
I’ve gotta find a way to get out of here

Ohh
Wait

Scissors on a table
(Too far away)
Am I ready am I able?
(We couldn’t say)
Well could I leave them with a fable?
(Huh? no way!)
Oh I’m banging on the ceiling
(Watch for the plane)
Well my body is a bleeding
(Get down and pray)
But there isn’t anybody in
(All away)
All away, all away

Ohh
Wait
Ohh
Wait
