Preston Heyman is a British session drummer who started playing drums in 1971. His first chart success came as a member of British R+B funk band Gonzalez, drumming on their worldwide disco hit ‘I Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet’ (1975). While in Air London Studio with Gonzalez recording tacks for their second album ‘Our Only Weapon Is Our Music’ (1975) he was watched from the door by Brian Ferry who asked him when he finished if he would cart his drums along the corridor to the studio next door, he agreed and played on ‘This Island Earth’ from ‘The Bride Stripped Bare’ (1978) alongside bass player Alan Spenner and guitarist Neil Hubbard of Kokomo. It was the start of a long career as a session musician.
In 1979, he was recruited for the Tour Of Life with Kate Bush. After the tour, he continued to work with Kate, playing drums on the Christmas special Kate, and in the studio on the tracks All We Ever Look For, Blow Away (For Bill), Delius (Song Of Summer), Egypt, Violin, Get Out Of My House, Leave It Open, Pull Out The Pin and Sat In Your Lap.
In 1984, he joined Kim Wilde’s band and toured with Kim during the Rage to Rock tour in 1985. Heyman went on to work with Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Massive Attack, Sting, Terence Trent d’Arby and others.
He is the co-founder of London based production company Flipside Productions and plays live with Zohar and Avivit on the London circuit.
