Richard Ames went to Oxford School in Oxford, before studying Business Studies at North East London Polytechnic HNC.

Between 1972 and 1986 he also managed tours with Cockney Rebel, Wishbone Ash, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, ELO, Grateful Dead, The Cars, Sailor, Frankie Miller, Rich Kids, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears, Icehouse, XTC, Rainbow, Wings, Duran Duran, Supertramp and Paul Young. He was also the tour manager for Kate Bush’s Tour Of Life in 1979.

Between 1989 and 1993 he became director and co-founder of Black Island Studios in London, with 35.000 square feet for music, film and TV stages. He also created the first website for selling tickets for music concerts in the UK and Europe.

In 2004, he went back to managing tours for, amongst others, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Supertramp, Mike Oldfield and Keziah Jones. In 2013, he became tour director for Tony Denton Promotions, with cruise and stadium shows featuring Seventies and Eighties artists.
