Maarten Mourik was one of the original members of the Dutch acapella group Montezuma’s Revenge, which started in 1985. He left the group in 1994 to concentrate on other projects. As a teacher he worked at the Rotterdam Conservatory CODARTS and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney (Australia).

In 2001, he released the solo album ‘Die Tuin’, with performances of 12 South African songs plus a cover version of Deeper Understanding. The CD came with an enhanced video of that song, featuring sign language for the deaf.

On the occasion of his play about the life of Dutch actress and performer Adele Bloemendaal with Sanne Wallis de Vries and Paul Groot, he has made a much-discussed documentary film ‘Adele Bloemendaal: Once I want to be rid of it’. Mourik gives workshops and works as a freelance director with choirs and vocal groups (including Montezuma’s Revenge, Femmage, Rock4 and Leeuwenhart).
