Gilliam, Terry

Born as Terrence Vance Gilliam on 22 November 1940, Terry Gilliam is an American-born British screenwriter, film director, animator, actor, comedian and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe. He has directed 12 feature films, including Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), 12 Monkeys (1995), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009). He became a naturalised British citizen in 1968 and formally renounced his American citizenship in 2006.

Kate Bush recorded the classic standard Brazil for Terry Gilliam's movie of the same name. For the music video of Cloudbusting, Gilliam put Kate in touch with Julian Doyle, who directed the video, and provided some assistance. Gilliam also offered support and technical assistance on Kate's own directorial efforts, including The Line The Cross And The Curve.

Kate called me to direct the video and I said, ‘No, how about Julian (Doyle)?’ They had a great time shooting, but somewhere in the editing a conflict developed and I became the mediator.
